Staff for screening platform and mechanism of action of new compounds with activity against human immunodeficiency virus (AIDS Immunopathology Unit. Instituto de Salud Carlos III). Sub technical support staff. Infrastructure mode (MINECO)
When I finished my training professional titling, the path of my life professional was the disease diagnostic laboratories. A lucky diverted me to research, to science. Since then, my experience has led me, over the years, to the screening.
First I worked at the Complutense University. In the Faculty of Medicine, I helped evaluate the phenotypic characteristics of 40 patients with common variable immunodeficiency. Then, I worked on the DNA sequencer at the Faculty of Pharmacy.
Later, SIDANAT project, developed in Instituto de Salud Carlos III (AIDS Immunopathology Unit), was set as the mainstay of antiviral evaluations in my Curriculum Vitae. Hundreds of natural compounds with antiviral activity against HIV. Extracted from known plants and only a few of the hundreds, with ability to inhibit HIV infection.
Wanting to broaden experience, I changed public research by private industry (GlaxoSmithKline. Diseases of the Developing World (DDW)). And I changed bacterial by virus. But I didn’t change the screening. And I kept evaluating the antimicrobial activity of new compounds with antituberculosis activity.
And time to stop public life came. In forced and desired time, I turned away from the professional world to enrich myself as a woman. And I directed my forces toward motherhood.
Two years later, as if it were a fingerprint, a DNA imprint or professional each carrier, I returned to ISCIII. I went to the screening of antivirals. Molecules directed mostly against HIV antiviral activity.
And here I find myself, emulating Agatha Christie. Investigating. Analyzing. Studying. Where this new molecule acts. Where it end up with HIV. If it will be at the entrance to the cell or at maturity. If it inhibit the reverse transcription or, later, in the transcript.
Here I find myself evaluating, analyzing, studying and enjoying.
