Post-doctoral position in the AIDS Immunopathology Unit (Instituto de Salud Carlos III)
My first contact with virology took place during the final degree project in the laboratory of Dr. Jose Maria del Rio Almendral at CBM. This short but intense period working with a small DNA virus, MVM parvovirus, determines my background in molecular biology and the understanding of life in the laboratory. This stage allowed me to arrive into the AIDS Immunopathology Unit from Dr. Jose Alcami, one of the Spanish reference groups in AIDS research. Here, I developed new techniques based on recombinant viruses, that I applied to the study of HIV drug resistance and replicative capacity and allowed me to defend my thesis in 2007. During 2008 I worked in the Viral Pathogenesis Unit at the Pasteur Institute headed by Dr. Fernando Arenzana-Seisdedos that allowed me to expand my training in the biology of HIV co-receptors. In 2009 I came back to the Alcami’s lab, where I work in the mechanism of action and development of resistance to CCR5 antagonists.
